Postagram - Postcards direct from your iPhone?

I downloaded the Postagram app a few months back, but hadn't yet had a good 'postcardworthy' opportunity to try it out.  A two week family trek vacation finally fit the bill.  So I thought I'd do a little post about the results.

Best Running Headphones-Sennheiser MX85 now MX685?

I've been running for more than 4 years now and have found that only one thing has the potential to be more important than your shoes; and that's your music.

The Mouse... She Is Dead!

Well, not that particular mouse, but my gaming mouse.  I made the switch to gaming mice some time ago, and I'm not completely certain they hold up to their claims.

When a paper jam isn't a paper jam...

As is standard with most technology, when you need it the most, it fails.

My wife was frantically trying to print out some bowling coupons to rush out the door and meet a friend for some free bowling for the kids.  This was obviously a good time for a printer failure.  Rather unexpected for a Canon MX410 printer that's only about 4 months old.

"a printer error has occured"
"Error 6000"

Good name for a movie.... not a good name for a printer error.

Teach your kids to fix stuff.. plant the seed!

As a dad, a teenager, and even before that, I've always been willing to rip something apart to find out how it works.  This history of tinkering and being willing to take on a repair has served me very well as a dad.

There are of course the endless repairs to home, auto, appliances, etc.  There is also never a lack of toys, gadgets, and otherwise irreplaceable treasures left on my desk with the hope that some magic will occur overnight, bringing a treasured toy back to life.

Dad Geek Gamer Gear for Father's Day

I finally got around to revamping my Dad Geek Gamer T-Shirt / Mug design so that it's more flexible.  Now there's a few other combinations available on CafePress.com besides the original "Soccer Ball / Resistor / Joystick" design.  Footballs, Baseballs, CPU chips, etc.  A couple of examples below.

Just in time for Father's Day.

If there's a particular combination of images you'd like to see, and it's not copyrighted, let me know.  It's not too hard to whip it up.  Take a peek here... or from the link up top.

Minecraft? Yes, Minecraft!

Why should you play Minecraft?

Well, maybe you shouldn't, but your kids certainly should.  Why?  Because it is all that is good in the world when it comes to video games.

"There's good in the world of video games?" you say.....  yes, yes there is.  It's not all guns and gore.  Well, a lot of it is, but not all of it.

To Bury A Family Pet ......

Looking back, this post is a bit long.  It is over 3 days.

Some may think it's a bit much over a pet.  But for those who know... well, you know.  Just check the 1st post about Simon from a couple of years ago, and you'll realize why we see him as so much a part of our family.  In many ways, one of the first parts of our family.

Monday, March 20th, 2012

I wrote a post almost two years ago, about preparing your kids for the death of a pet.  Our basset hound Simon, 12 years old at the time, was having a lot of difficulty with the Texas summer, and we were afraid things were winding down for him.  After installing a water mist system that ran most days, and a little time, Simon seemed to catch his second wind.  Fortunately, we held off on having the talk with our boys, waiting to see if Simon would make a turn for the better, and he did.

Gutters need to be larger..... or tennis balls smaller

I'm not going to pretend I'm surprised by this.   I just thought it was one of those 'guaranteed to have' experiences that comes with being the dad of three boys.

During a heavy rainstorm a few days back, we noticed that water was gushing from all sides of our back patio gutters.. and not so much from the down spout.  Now, being the end of winter, this 'could' have certainly been due to normal gutter muck, leaves and what not.  But I know better

Your flat panel... He's not dead yet!

I've been using a Samsung Syncmaster 2232GW for around 4 years now and love it.  The glossy screen makes its colors more vibrant than any other flat panel I've used.

Unfortunately for the past 8 months or so, it's been on a slow decline.  When coming out of sleep the light in the display would flicker on for a moment and then off.  This could usually be remedied by turning it off, then on again.  Of course this slowly grew into having to do it 3, 4, 7 or more times.  Until I found myself cycling it for 10 or so minutes to get it to stay on.  So I did the next logical thing, and set it to never turn off.

Review: Asics Kayano-18 vs GT-2160

Upgrade, or not to upgrade......

I've only been running for 4 years.  But the majority of that time has been spent in Asics GTs. 2140s, 2150s, 2160s.  They've treated me well, and are certainly my 'go to' shoe.

However, when the marathon training starts hitting 15+ mile runs, it seems I'm always wishing for just a little more cushion.  I'm not setting any records, so a couple additional ounces of weight in exchange for less foot pain is OK by me.
